Film Premiere of A New Leaf, Confronting a Food Crisis

After the film, join us for a panel discussion about the documentary, food security, and development issues in the Sahel region of West Africa. Our special guests include Archbishop Prendergast and Fr. Isidore Ouedraogo, Executive Secretary of Caritas Burkina Faso, as well as representatives from Salt + Light, Canadian Foodgrains Bank and CCODP.

As you may recall, last summer the Sahel region of West Africa experienced a terrible food crisis that put 18 million people at risk of hunger. Development and Peace launched an appeal to respond to this crisis, and in collaboration with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank (CFGB), supported extensive food distribution programs in the region and other relief activities.

At the height of the crisis, a film crew from Salt+Light Television travelled to Niger with staff of Development and Peace to witness firsthand the complexities of this situation and our response with Caritas Niger. The result is a soon-to-be-released documentary entitled “A New Leaf”, which will be broadcast on Salt+Light in March. The documentary is a journey through the many issues that contribute to creating such tremendous suffering for the most poor and a testament to the power of our Catholic solidarity in making a real difference.  For more info see the Salt+Light website
